materials.
I work primarily in sterling silver and brass. I do not always stamp sterling with .925 because of design constraints, but I guarantee that everything that looks "silver" in my shop is sterling silver.
I use Argentium silver for all ear wires (with the exception of stud earrings). Argentium has a higher silver content than sterling and contains no copper, so I have found that it works better for folks with sensitivities to sterling.
care.
All my pieces are given a patina that darkens them, so they are basically "pre-tarnished". Then I seal everything with a light wax to prolong the finish, but this will eventually wear off with time and the metal will change and darken. I include a small Sunshine brand polishing cloth with all orders, that can be used gently to bring back some shine.
I DO NOT recommend using chemical jewelry or silver cleaners as these will completely strip the intentional patina, as well as sometimes doing unexpected things to the surface and color, as well as possibly damaging any stones present.
After selling brass jewelry for over 20 years I have found that most people like the way the metal changes with wear, but if it is extremely tarnished or bothers you, a little gentle polish with 0000 steel wool will remove most polish and leave a finish closest to the original.
Please avoid using polishing cloth or steel wool on any entirely black/recessed parts of the metal, I often intentionally patina elements black to give character and depth, cleaning these areas will remove the intentional coloration.
Lastly, storing jewelry in airtight containers when not in use and keeping them dry will also help prevent tarnish.
